Eileen Miller trained staff at the Cobblestone Inn & Suites in Manchester, Iowa, to realize, recognize and respond to human trafficking. This training is part of a committee’s work through the Coalition. The training is based on the Omaha, Nebraska, model for hotels/motels.
Research reveals that 70% of sex trafficking occurs in hotels and motels. To combat this, the Coalition trained 20 of its’ members as either an ambassador or a trainer to present to area hotel and motel staffs so that they recognize and respond to human trafficking in their facilities. A key component for staff members is to know the hotels’ policy about contacting local law enforcement when sex trafficking is suspected.
